About A.R.O. Adventures
A.R.O. Adventures has been New York State's leading whitewater company for thirty eight years. We discovered and pioneered the whitewater of the Black River, we were the first New York outfitter on the Moose River, and we were one of the founding members of the Hudson River Professional Rafting Association.
ARO has an experienced and personable guide staff. Our guides have a passion for whitewater and for sharing that passion with our guests.
At ARO our goal is to provide our guests with:
A participatory experience in which the guide and the crew, TOGETHER, successfully meet the challenge of the river.
An opportunity to appreciate the wild Adirondacks and the wild rivers of Northern New York.
In the PBS Video below, Gary Staab, one of the founders and owners of ARO, talks about his love for that special place in the Adirondack wilderness:
"The Hudson River Gorge"
A.R.O. Adventures began as Adirondack River Outfitters and grew out of a love of wild rivers and wild places. In the beginning we had one raft and began exploring trips on the Moose River, we loved what we found! As our skills developed we began taking friends and relatives down the river and we were thrilled by the joy and sense of accomplishment a whitewater trip produced in our friends. At the time we didn't realize that the Moose had some of the most intense whitewater in the Eastern U.S. it was just our home river. By this time we were hooked and we made a commitment to making this environmentally friendly experience available to the public.
With three major rivers nearby our guides have been exposed to every conceivable whitewater situation. Because our guides love whitewater, often running guides trips on the Moose on their days off, ARO's guides are among the best. It was when we began and still is a great training and proving ground for our guides.
